An early morning oil explosion on Friday killed several persons in Rumuekpe in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers.
The victims include women and children.
Some vehicles were also completely burnt in the inferno which occurred around 2 am at a crude oil tapping point, reports the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The explosion happened when a bus loaded with some crude caught fire on its way to a local refinery in the area.
Police Public Public Relations Officer for Rivers state Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko has confirmed the incident but said that the number of the casualty was still unknown.
"I have called the DPO and he said he would go around with his patrol team and get back to me. Just wait and let me get the details,” she said.
