Turkish authorities have detained some Nigerians for allegedly running a prostitution ring in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, (TRNC).
Those arrested are Sharon Blessing Chibuike, 38, Promise Ben David, 27, Chinedu Emmanuel Ibekweo, 19, and Esther Montse, 29.
They are being accused of forced detention with intent prostitution, encouragement of prostitution, prostitution, and intentional sexual sex detention.
The facts were reported, in sworn testimony in Court by a Police officer, Vasvi Özbey, acting on a complaint filed by “OA” at the Nicosia Judicial Branch on January 23, 2023.
Blessing Chibuike lives with OA in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus.
The four accused persons allegedly brought the 28-year-old OA from Nigeria to enroll as a student in Turkey, but withheld her passport and forced her to have sex with men in exchange for money.
A search warrant was issued by the Nicosia District Court, but no one could be identified at the address they claimed as their residence.
On January 24, the police got an order from the Court to detain the suspects for prosecution.
Two notebooks were found at the address and they now form part of the evidence.
The suspects have entered a not-guilty plea.
Trial Judge Nil Elodie Çeliker ordered that they be remanded in police custody as the investigation continues.
