ASUU says issues in dispute are yet to be addressed satisfactorily.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has revealed that it suspended its eight months old industrial action to obey the order of the Court of Appeal and in deference to appeals made to it by President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as the efforts of the Speaker of the House the of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and other well-meaning Nigerians.

The union has therefore directed its members to immediately resume all services earlier withdrawn at their various duty posts with effect from 12.01 on Friday, October 14, 2022.

In a statement released Friday by its president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU, however, said that the issues that led to its strike action were yet to be addressed satisfactorily. " While appreciating the commendable efforts of the leadership of the House of Representatives and other patriotic Nigerians who waded into the matter, NEC noted with regret that the issues in dispute are yet to be satisfactorily addressed," the statement noted.

According to the statement, some of the issues in contention are ”Funding for the revitalization of public universities; earned Academic Allowances, the proliferation of public universities, visitation panels /release of white papers and University Transparency and Accountability Solution, UTAS, as a broad spectrum software to stop illegality and provide for an alternative payment platform in the university system.”

The decision to suspend the strike was taken at an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) held at the Comrade Festus lyayi National Secretariat, University of Abuja, Abuja, on Thursday, 13th October 2022.

The meeting which was attended by all states and zonal branch executives of ASUU reviewed developments since the Union declared an indefinite strike action on 29th August 2022.
