Operatives of Imo state government security outfit, Ebubeagu have reportedly killed the chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Ibeme ward, Comrade David Uche.

According to SaharaReporters, the Ebubeagu operatives together with some personnel of the Nigerian Army invaded Uche's family house in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, at about 7:30 am on Wednesday and shot him three times in the head and chest.

The assailants who drove in a Sienna and a Lexus 300 jeep subsequently deposited Uche's body at the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri (FMC) morgue where he was tagged as an “unknown gunman.”

The YPP State Chairman, Victor Diala confirmed the incident to journalists in Owerri.

Diala, while condemning the unprovoked killing of the party chieftain called on the Imo State Government and security agents to fish out the culprits.

He said: “It happened. The young man was shot right in front of his house. The funny thing is that they took his body to Federal Medical Centre, Owerri (FMC) where they tagged it ‘unknown gunman’.”

However, an eyewitness told some journalists in Owerri, that most residents of the Ibeme community believed that Uche's assailants were hired by a man who had a misunderstanding with him over an N100,000 debt.

Police have yet to comment on the incident.
