Militants hoist Biafra Nation's flag in Bakassi after killing two Cameroonian soldiers.

Militants, suspected to belong to the Black Marine of the Biafra Nations League (BNL), have reportedly killed two Cameroonian soldiers in the Bakassi peninsula.

The members of the militant group were said to be traveling toward Ikang near Nigeria's borders on Thursday when they were confronted by Cameroon’s Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) who shot from a short distance away.

According to a source, the militants shot one BIR operative and killed two during the exchange.

Subsequently, the militants returned to the Abana waterfront, where the Cameroon flag was flying and fired randomly before lowering the flag and hoisting the Biafra nation's flag around the voting booth.

This was not the first BNL attack on the Cameroon Brigade d’Intervention Rapide, BIR in Bakassi.

In May 2021, both engaged in a fierce gun battle at Isangele, Bakassi Peninsula area during which some BIR operatives were reportedly killed.

The BNL Chief Head of Operations, Henry Edit, in a brief statement then confirmed the attack, saying, “Militant group loyal to BNL and Cameroon forces exchanged fire in Isangele, Bakassi Peninsula.”

“Two Cameroon BIR dropped dead during an exchange of gunfire in Bakassi Peninsula,” Edit claimed.

The BNL recently said it would completely shut down the Gulf of Guinea and hoist the Biafran flag in the Bakassi Peninsula to mark the Biafra Day memorial.
