Nigerian Police begin a manhunt for killers of Imo monarch and his guests

The Imo state Police command has confirmed the killing of Eze Ignatius Asor, the traditional ruler of Obudi, Agwa community in Oguta Local Government Area of the state by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

The traditional ruler and three others were shot and killed early on Monday when gunmen numbering over ten invaded his palace during a meeting with some of his palace chiefs.

Eyewitnesses from the area said that apart from the dead, “many others were seriously wounded. Some have been rushed to hospital. Some also could not survive it. The community is in the commotion and everybody is running away. At least 10 people have been wounded and many others ran away,” Vanguard reports.

According to Sahara Reporters, the Imo Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mike Abattam, while confirming the incident said that Police are already trailing the perpetrators.

"Yes, it's true but the police are already investigating the matter, we have clues already and we are on their trail," PPRO Abattam said.

Community sources told Sahara Reporters that the attackers operated on motorbikes and vehicles and sped off immediately after hitting their target.

Mr. Marcel Obi, a resident of the community who confirmed the incident to Sahara Reporters on Monday, lamented the death of the traditional ruler and described it as a big loss to the entire Agwa community.

"He was such a good man; he has helped to curb the incessant insecurity situation we have been experiencing in this community; it's a pity he is gone," Obi said.
