Operatives of Amotekun Corps in Ibiade,
Ogun State arrested a herbalist for allegedly starving two of his children to death after locking them up in a room for three months.
The father of three, identified as Ogunfadeke was said to have denied food to his three children over an allegation of stealing, according to a report by PMEXPRESS.
Ogunfadeke's arrest followed a complaint brought by his estranged wife, Busola Otusegun, alleging that he killed two of their children, Yusuf Ogunfadeke (‘M’ 18 years) and Dasola Ogunfadeke (‘F’ 17 years) and secretly buried them in an unknown location.
According to David Akinremi, the Ogun State Amotekun Commander, Busola narrated that her former husband, Ogunfadeke insisted on having custody of their three children after their marriage broke down a few years ago.
Busola said that although she remarried and relocated to Warri, Delta State, and lost direct access to their children, she had maintained constant contact with Ogunfadeke who consistently assured her that he took good care of the children's welfare.
She further disclosed that things took a new turn on 30th March 2023 when the youngest of the children,16 ran into their aunt in Ibiade and narrated to her how
their father had chained and locked them up without food for three months, causing the death of his two elder siblings, between April and June 2022 at Ijebu-Ode where they lived at the time.
The Amotekun Commander said under questioning, Ogunfadeke admitted he confined the children for several months to stop them from stealing, but denied starving them to death.
He also claimed that at different times, when the deceased became ill,
he took them to hospital but they later died.
However, the Amotekun commander, Akinremi said some things do not sit well in Ogunfadeke's account.
“What is however, curious about his defense is that the hospital where he claimed the two children died in Ijebu Ode could neither be located nor where he allegedly buried them behind a rented apartment he lived in Ijebu-Ode before relocating to his present abode in Ibiade with the third child for possible exhumation be traced.”
“The fact that he refused to make the incidents known to any member of the family also gives course for concern. More so, when the suspect is a herbalist, it further fueled the suspicion of having killed the deceased for possible rituals” Akinremi stated.
Akinremi said the case would be transferred to Ogun State CIID for further investigations and possible prosecution.
