Authorities in Germany have identified Philipp F., 35, as the gunman who shot dead seven people at a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Hamburg on Thursday night.
German Police on Friday, said Philip, a former Jehovah’s Witness also injured eight others; four in serious condition, before taking his own life.
It is still not clear what motivated him to attack.
However, according to the daily beast, citing the BBC, in a news conference on Friday, Police said the attacker had " ill feelings."
The victims included men and women aged between 33 and 60 and an unborn baby. All were German nationals, authorities said.
Investigators said Philip F legally had a semi-automatic pistol and acquired a gun license in December last year.
Ralf Martin Meyer, Hamburg police chief said Phillip F was previously investigated after authorities were informed that he had an undiagnosed mental illness, and might not be suitable to own weapons, but it was eventually decided that he had not violated any rules. Over 100 rounds were fired during the attack.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has described the attack as a “brutal act of violence."
In a statement, the Jehovah’s Witness community in Germany said it was “deeply saddened by the horrific attack on its members at the Kingdom Hall in Hamburg after a religious service”.
Hamburg’s Mayor Peter Tschentscher also expressed his shock and offered his condolences.
