Aloy Ejimakor and Nnamdi Kanu
Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Aloy Ejimakor said that Nigeria's Department of State Services, the DSS has denied his client his medications in the past 9 days and also starved him of food on Thursday.
Ejimakor said this was disclosed to him by Kanu when he visited him on Thursday, at the DSS facility in Abuja where he has been detained since June 2021.
According to the lawyer, the explanation given by the DSS for their actions was that there was no money to buy food for Kanu.
Ejimakor who revealed that he visited Kanu in the company of Prince Emma Kanu and Barrister Nnaemeka Ejiofor, said that the IPOB leader directed him to make public his ordeal in the DSS custody.
Ejimakor said, “Special Update: Today, I visited #MNK in the company of Prince Emma Kanu & Barr. Nnaemeka Ejiofor. He instructed me to make it public that he has not been given his drugs for the past 9 days & he has not eaten today because DSS says that they don’t have money to buy his food. #Sad.”
Nigeria's Court of Appeal had on October 13, 2022, discharged and acquitted Kanu of the terrorism charges brought against him by the federal government and ruled that Kanu was abducted in Kenya and extraordinarily rendered to Nigeria in June 2021, but the government has refused to release Kanu from detention pending the determination of an appeal it filled at the Supreme Court challenging the decision of the Appeal Court.
