Datti appeals to Buhari, Chief Justice not to swear in Tinubu as next president of Nigeria.

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed.

Labour Party vice presidential candidate, in the February 25 election,

Datti Baba-Ahmed wants Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari not to transfer power to  Bola Tinubu on May 29.

Datti Baba- Ahmed also called on  Nigeria's Chief Justice, Olukayode Ariwoola, not to administer the oath of office to Tinubu, according to Sahara Reporters.

He argued that transferring power to Bola Tinubu would be unconstitutional and similar to giving authority to a military regime.

Baba-Ahmed was speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday.

“Mr. President, do not organize that handover. CJN, your lordship, do not swear in this man so long as that problem is not…”

“Swearing in Alhaji Tinubu is as good as swearing in a military regime. They are both unconstitutional, ” Baba- Ahmed said.

POLITICS NIGERIA reported that Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, in the interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, also rejected Bola Tinubu as Nigeria's president-elect, saying that the certificate presented to Tinubu by INEC was a " dud." one.

Speaking on the petition filed by Peter Obi against Bola Tinubu at the Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday afternoon, Baba- Ahmed said the Labour Party chose to take on their opponents from an unexpected angle.

He said: “We hit them where they didn't expect. We didn’t ask them to rig the elections. We have been very kind to these people. We have been very, very gentle with them.

“Look, Obi and I can account for all our political opponents. Ask the other elected persons to account for their opponents. Ngige is alive.

“In my case, all the opponents I have faced, people like Makarfi, are all alive. But, the other elected persons cannot tell you. In Lagos and Borno, these people cannot account for all their opponents. And that’s why we are being careful.

“We are talking about danger here. Let’s also not forget that a gentleman somewhere forfeited $460,000 in order not to go to prison. And now, he is a president-elect after assaulting the Nigerian Constitution.

“As I said, we will hit them where they never expected because we never thought that they would behave in the way they did,” Datti Baba- Ahmed said.

The Labour Party presidential candidate and former Anambra governor, Peter Obi in his petition raised Tinubu’s alleged forfeiture of the sum of $460,000 in a drug-related case in the United States several years ago as one of the grounds for which he seeks Tinubu's disqualification and annulment of the February 25 presidential election.

Following the 25 February 2023 presidential election, Nigeria's Independent Electoral Commission, INEC declared that APC's Bola Tinubu is the president-elect having scored the highest number of votes to defeat his top contenders, Atiku Abubakar of the PDP. and Peter Obi of Labour Party.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has since issued a certificate of return to Bola Tinubu.

However, Atiku and Obi are challenging the outcome of that election in court.
