Labour Party rejects the outcome of the "shambolically conducted election in Imo State."

The Labour Party in Imo state has declared that it does not accept any results manually collated by INEC, not supported by IREV data and officially collated in the presence of all party agents.

The Party, therefore, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to immediately conduct an official collation of the results of the state Assembly election in the presence of all party agents and announce the authentic results thereafter.

Labor party also repeated its earlier warning that should any violence result from the outcome of the elections in Imo state,  INEC officials and the Imo State government should be held accountable.

During a press conference at Owerri, the state capital on Tuesday, 21 March 2023, the Imo state Labour Party Chairman, Dr. Ambrose Onyekwere said:

1. "We STATE categorically that Labour Party convincingly won a clear majority of seats in the Saturday 18/3/23 State Constituency elections.

2. "We DEMAND that INEC shall, without delay, IMMEDIATELY hold an official collation of results for the Saturday 18/3/23 elections that shall be attended by agents of all parties.

 * We reject any manual collation not supported by IReV data.

 * Thereafter, INEC shall announce the authentic results of the Saturday 18/3/23 elections.

3. "We shall vigorously CHALLENGE any manipulation or falsification of our authentic results in the Courts.

4." We REMIND INEC officials as well as security agents in Imo State that they have no immunity from prosecution. Only the Governor has a term-limited immunity.

5. "We REPEAT our warning from the last press conference to INEC officials and their partners in the employ of Imo State government that they shall be held “Liable For Incitement To Insurrection” should their actions result in post-election violence in Imo State.

The Labour party alleged that there was violent intimidation of voters by political thugs and some state government officials, vote buying, and snatching of electoral materials during the election.

It also accused INEC of  " announcing results from polling units where elections did not hold.", and failing to upload

BVAS data and accepting discrepancies between uploaded results on IReV and announced results.

In an earlier press conference, shortly after the presidential and National Assembly elections, the Labour Party in Imo state called for the immediate removal of the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Imo state, Professor Sylvia Agu, all LGA Electoral Officers (EOs) and all Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs) in the state for alleged "deliberate subversion of the democratic process and a systematic disenfranchisement of the citizens of Imo state,"

It also announced at the time, that  it was

rejecting, in advance all results of the state House of Assembly election to be conducted by the named state Resident Electoral Commissioner.
