Cholera outbreak: 19 dead, 286 in hospital in Cross River.


19 persons have been confirmed dead while 286 others are receiving treatment in different communities and health facilities in Cross River state following an outbreak of cholera.


51 out of the 89 communities of the Obubra local government area were affected, Vanguard reports.


The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Janet Ekpenyong, said that the 286 cases were confirmed through Rapid Diagnosis Testing at the weekend.


Janet said that the procedures have been set up to effectively contain the outbreak

and advised the people to avoid self-medication.


A team of experts, including the WHO, Primary Health Care Agency has also been sent in to help contain the outbreak.


A source who did not want to be named told Sunday Vanguard that 18 of the victims died in the various communities while one died in a hospital as a result of late arrival.
