An unnamed woman in India has given birth to a baby boy with hair covering more than half of his body.
The boy with thick, dark hair was reportedly born at CHC Bawan in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh.

According to Jam Press, the baby’s delivery was hitch-free, but 60% of its body was covered in dark hair, a condition that initially stunned the local medical team.
Startling photos showing thick hair covering the baby’s back appeared online and became viral.

According to MedlinePlus.gov, the baby was subsequently referred to specialist Dr. Ikram Hussain — who diagnosed him with a congenital skin condition called a melanocytic nevus, a “skin condition characterized by an abnormally dark, noncancerous skin patch.”
Experts say the discolored patch affects 1 in 20,000 infants globally, and “typically expands at the same rate as the body grows and will eventually be at least 40 centimeters (15.75 inches) across.”

The surface could vary over time depending on the location and it might be smooth, rough, elevated, thickened, or bumpy, they say.
In November, a video of a teenager in India also went viral after he disclosed that he suffered from a rare skin condition known as hypertrichosis, which caused him to sprout “werewolf” fur all over his body, Newsfinale reports.
