A 44-year-old black man, Darren Glover was ‘attacked’ for planning to marry his white girlfriend in a ceremony at a U.S. prison where he is serving a jail sentence.
Glover was reportedly battered by a corrections officer, Michael Baxter, 49, at Apalachee Correctional Institute in Sneads, FL, in July 2015.
Baxter allegedly got angry with Glover for having untied shoelaces during a photoshoot the previous day and following that, Glover was brought into an office in the prison and beaten up.
Baxter had told his colleague Shannon Watts, "That n***** did not need to be marrying a white woman.
He needed to be in confinement all along," Metro, UK reports.
It was said that Watts heard Glover screaming in pain, and initially helped Baxter cover up his crime by confirming a false use-of-force report.
However, according to a report by the North West Florida Daily News, Watts is currently giving evidence against her former colleague.
"The crying, the whining — they haven’t been removed.
They are still there. This was eating at me, and I had to get some relief," Watts explained.
Baxter maintains that he used reasonable force and denies using cruel or unusual punishment on an inmate and falsifying records.
