The University of Kent has caused many to raise eyebrows with the recent release of its guidelines on the use of acceptable language which the institution called its 'advice' to students.
The University said they aim to create an inclusive environment for its diverse student body, Euro Weekly News reports.
Consequently, the University said the term ‘Christian name’ should be avoided; ‘surname’ (sire name or father’s name) should be replaced with ‘family name’, and other gendered terms like ‘man the phones’ should be changed to ‘attend the phones.’
The words ‘mother’ and ‘father’ are instead replaced by ‘parents’ or ‘caregivers’ to recognize diverse family groups.
There have also been recent woke suggestions to replace the word ‘woman” with ‘egg-producing’ or ‘XX individual.’
The so-called ‘woke movement’ is steadily suggesting languages that they believe certain groups in society might find offensive.
According to them, women may find ‘mankind’ a patriarchal term. Muslims and people of other faiths may feel marginalized by the common use of Christian terms like Easter, Lent, etc.
Christian groups have responded by maintaining that the moral and spiritual foundations of Western civilization were provided by Christianity, and that is the factual history, whether you are a person of faith or not.
Collins dictionary defines Wokeism as: ‘the behavior and attitudes of people who are sensitive to social and political injustice.’
But, according to Euro Weekly News,
another source says workerism is: ‘weaponized personal grievances masquerading as genuine social concern.’
Education. Society and Culture. Lifestyle.
