"They might have just found themselves a gem."-Micah Richards praises Chelsea's Lewis Hall

After Chelsea's 2-0 loss to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, Micah Richards, a former Manchester City defender, singled out young Lewis Hall for praise, saying the 18-year-old was among the best players on the field during the match at Etihad Stadium.

Reacting to Hall’s performance, Richards said on Sky Sports: “Before he was taken off, he was one of the best players on the pitch. His influence within the game, and the confidence of such a young lad, were really good to see.

“They might have just found themselves a gem. It’s another one to come through the academy.”

Richard added: “He was excellent all night, whether it was running in behind, whether it was defending, or whether it was just that confidence to get on the ball in difficult moments when other players didn’t want to have it.

“On another day, he could have got two goals at the Etihad. His performance tonight was magnificent.”

Wednesday's matchup between the Blues and Pep Guardiola's team saw Hall make his second senior start for the team.

The English teenager delivered two attempts on goal, one of which he should have converted, and 21 out of  27 accurate passes.

The Premier League champions, however, knocked out Graham Potter's team from the Carabao Cup third-round stage thanks to two goals from Riyad Mahrez and  Julian Alvarez.
