About 19 persons were killed in terrorist attacks on Sunday night in the Malagum and Sokwong communities of Kagoro Chiefdom in the Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to a Twitter user, Steven Kefas, the attacks came on the heels of similar attacks recently in different parts of Southern Kaduna during which several people were killed, SaharaReporters said.
“At least 17 dead bodies have been recovered after terrorists suspected to be Fulani herdsmen launched late-night attacks in Mallagun communities in Southern Kaduna yesterday.
“This is coming a few days after several people were killed in different parts of Southern Kaduna.”
“2 more bodies have just been recovered, bringing the total to 19, search for more missing people is ongoing,” Steven Kefas later added on Twitter.
The Chairman of the Council, Hon. Mathias Siman told The PUNCH that he could only confirm that seven persons were gruesomely murdered in the Sokwong community and all the houses in the community were completely burnt down by the terrorists. He said he was yet to confirm the killings in the Malagum I community.
However, the Speaker of Kaura Local Government Area, Hon. Atuk Stephen confirmed that over 22 people were killed in Malagum I, while eight were killed in Sokwong.
Atuk described the killings as "heinous," and called on the Federal Government and security agencies to do more to prevent further killings in the area.
“Attacks in our area have been consistent and multi-dimensional with efforts of the security operatives and government not seen or felt,” Atuk told The PUNCH.
The Kaduna state police command has not reacted to the development.
