The Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry Enugu, Nigeria Catholic Chaplaincy, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has resumed duties at St Andrew's Abbey Monastery in Los Angeles, USA.
Rev. Fr. Camillus Ejike Mbaka
According to a report by The Punch, photos and a video posted on Twitter on Tuesday, showed Fr. Mbaka standing by the monastery's signpost and saying, “Officially I have entered into St Andrew’s Abbey Monastery in Los Angeles, Valyermo.”
Following, Fr. Mbaka's outbursts against Labor Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga, in June 2022 suspended activities at the Adoration Ministry and banned the Catholic clergy and laity from attending the Ministry.
In a letter signed personally by Most Rev. Onaga at that time and addressed to ‘All the Clergy, Religious and Lay Faithful in the Catholic Diocese of Enugu’, the Bishop said, “in the light of the happenings in the Catholic Adoration Ministry Chaplaincy Enugu, capable of undermining the Catholic faith and teachings and after several fraternal corrections and admonitions to Fr. Camillus Ejike Mbaka, the Chaplain of the Ministry and after having given him pastoral directives. and guidelines for the Ministry Chaplaincy, which he persistently violated and in fulfillment of my pastoral duties as the Chief Shepherd with the obligation to promote and safeguard the Catholic faith and morals in Enugu Diocese, I hereby prohibit all Catholics (clergy, religious and lay faithful) henceforth from attending all religious and liturgical activities of the Catholic Adoration Ministry until the due canonical process initiated by the Diocese is concluded.
Most Rev. Callistus Onaga
"My decision is based on the fact that some of the teachings and utterances of Fr. Camillus Ejike Mbaka at the Catholic Adoration Ministry are not consistent with the teachings and faith of the Catholic Church.”
The Ministry was later reopened and turned into a Chaplaincy to give the Diocese better control over its activities.
In October 2022, Rev. Fr. Mbaka was transferred from the chaplaincy to the monastery, following his continued failure to keep off comments deemed to be political, and Rev. Fr. Anthony Amadi was named to replace him (Mbaka) as the new chaplain of the Adoration Ministry Chaplaincy.
