Police question a traditional ruler over his role in the burning of a 9-year-old girl's corpse.

Police in Enugu have questioned a traditional ruler in the State (name withheld) for allegedly authorizing the burning of the decomposing remains of a 9-year-old girl, Precious Korshima.

The traditional ruler spent several hours with the Police before he was let go on bail, Daily Post reports.

Mr. Olu Omotayo, the president of the rights group, Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement Network (CRRAN) had petitioned the Enugu State Commissioner of Police on behalf of James Korshima, the father of the deceased, alleging that Precious was beaten to death by her mistress, Mrs. Ujunwa Ugwoke, who later dumped her corpse in a forest along the Enugu-Portharcourt Expressway.

Omotayo further alleged that the Police informed Korshima that their investigations revealed that the traditional ruler of the community where the corpse was dumped, without informing security agents about the corpse found in his domain, ordered the youths to burn the decomposing remains because of its offensive odor.

“Ujunwa Ugwuoke killed the little child in a cruel and barbaric way and dumped the corpse in the bush while the traditional ruler in question completed the unlawful act by ordering the burning of the corpse,” Omotayo said.

Mrs. Ugwuoke, resident at Fidelity Estate, Enugu is said to have admitted to beating Precious to death and later dumping her corpse along the Enugu-Portharcourt Expressway.

The girl's father, James Korshima has appealed for justice and also asked that the remains of his child, Precious be released to him for a decent burial.
