Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The Osun State Government has explained that a minor misunderstanding between officers of the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigeria Police Force caused the DSS to withdraw its personnel from Governor Ademola Adeleke's security detail.
In a press statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed on Sunday, the government said, however, it has reported the issue to the headquarters of both security agencies for resolution.
“The attention of the Osun State Government has been drawn to a report on the alleged withdrawal of security personnel from Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“We want to clarify that it is a minor disagreement between officers of the Department of State Service and the Police.
“The matter has been reported to the headquarters of the two security agencies for resolution. The issue is being sorted out.
The government also reassured the residents of the state that government activities are not hindered by the development and that there is no cause to be agitated.
“We reassure members of the public that there is no cause for alarm. Your Governor is fully secured and governance is proceeding without let or hindrance”, the statement read.
Last week, the headquarters of the DSS recalled its personnel attached to Governor Adeleke, requesting that he complied strictly with security protocol.
According to Vanguard, the DSS headquarters was displeased that its personnel in the governor's security detail were insulted by police officers and the Governor did nothing to address the issue.
Earlier, the head of the DSS reported to its Command headquarters in Osogbo that
some men from Police SIB, brought in by the Governor's Aide de Camp (ADC) dressed and usurped DSS duties.
Following the delay in addressing the situation, the command headquarters in Abuja on Thursday ordered the withdrawal of its personnel until the governor was ready to sort out the issue, Vanguard reports.
