The Nigerian Army on Saturday kick-started a free medical outreach at Afara-Ukwu Ibeku, the country home of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
This is coming five years after Kanu’s family compound was invaded by security operatives, forcing the IPOB leader to flee to save his life as the Court has ruled.

According to Brig. Gen. Adegoke Adetuyi, the Commander, 14 Brigade Nigeria Army, Ohafia, the medical outreach is part of the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) program of the ongoing operation Exercise GOLDEN DAWN II in the Southeast region.
Speaking to reporters at Afara-Ukwu Technical School, the venue of the outreach, Brigadier Adetuyi noted that “the free medical outreach is aimed at assuring the good and loving people of Afara-Ukwu of Nigerian Army’s genuine concern in their affairs, as exemplified in the readiness of the troops to not only provide adequate security for the people at this Yuletide season but also to support their wellbeing always.”
He further said that the exercise was to strengthen the existing cordial relationship between the people of Abia state and the Nigerian Army and make the environment conducive for next year's general elections.
The Nigerian Army “is ever ready to perform its constitutional role of giving necessary support to the Civil Authority in providing necessary conducive environment for electioneering activities towards 2023 general elections in the state,” Gen. Adetuyi said.
