Four police officers killed as ex-governor Ohakim escapes death.

Former governor of Imo state, Ikedi Ohakim, on Monday evening escaped what looks like an assassination attempt, but four of his police orderlies were not that lucky when gunmen attacked his convoy at Oriagu in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state.

When the ex-governor escaped, the angry gunmen set his backup vehicle on fire using explosives, OkeomaNews reports.

Ohakim with two of his children were returning from a visit when the gunmen attacked them.

A source close to the ex-governor said,  "His excellency was the main target but his driver was smart enough to beat them because they were driving to block him.

" Disappointed that their main target had escaped, they blocked his backup vehicle and burnt it. The four policemen with him burnt.”

The ex-governor, Ohakim was later escorted home by a security reinforcement sent from Owerri, the State capital.

Ikedi Ohakim was the governor of Imo state from 2007 to 2011.
