A 36-year-old lawyer, Abasiesebanga Ikoiwak, and five others have been accused of killing her 41-year-old husband, Barrister Godwin Ikoiwak, in Akwa Ibom State.
Barrister Godwin Ikoiwak, who hailed from the Eket Local Government Area, of the state was working with the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Justice.
When the matter came up for hearing before the Uyo Federal High Court, Barrister Sunny Anyanwu,
a friend and classmate of Godwin Ikoiwak testified that shortly before his death, the deceased had told him in a phone conversation that he and his wife, Barrister Abasiesebanga Ikoiwak were having problems over her infidelity.
Anyanwu said his late friend also told him that following his complaint to his wife's family, they invited him to a meeting at the family compound in Nung Udoe Itak, Ikono Local Government Area, but the deceased Ikoiwak did not return home alive from that meeting.
According to Barr. Anyanwu who is the 7th prosecution witness in the matter, Godwin further alleged that his wife, Barrister Abasiesebanga Ikoiwak was having a sexual affair with Barrister C.I. Odoh, another lawyer and her former boss.
The deceased also disclosed to Anyanwu that his wife, Abasiesebanga
allegedly had a 19-year-old son with a Catholic priest, Rev. Father Maurice Mbeke whom she lived with, at some point
as a house help. The child was named after the priest's maternal grandfather, Anyanwu noted.
The prosecution witness further stated that the late Barrister Ikoiwak was unaware that the houseboy who had lived with them for years, was his wife's son, as she had introduced the boy as her younger brother.
Anyanwu said his deceased friend told him that each time his wife said she was pregnant, he would not see her, until after the baby was delivered, when she would then present it to him and say “This is your child”.
The prosecution team was led by Akwa Ibom State Director of Public Prosecutions, Akwa Ibom State, Barr. Joseph Umoren and tendered the audio evidence which was played in the open court.
